3 FREE Kid-Friendly Events Happening This Week (And One For You).

Stuck on what to do with your kiddos this week? Here are three of my favorite kid-friendly events this week. I’ve added a few tips to each activity (from personal experience) that you might find helpful. Let’s fill this weekend with lots of (free) fun for your family! The hardest part will be picking which to do.

15th and 16th September, 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm: Stroll, shop, dine, and dance on San Anselmo Avenue

Don’t miss: Every Friday and Saturday evening in September, San Anselmo Avenue will be closed to traffic and open to pedestrians for a lovely community-centered event through the heart of town. Concerts will be at Creek Park and the Town Hall Plaza.

Where: San Anselmo Ave, San Anselmo

We love it because: There’s something for everyone in the family - from great live music to kid faves like bubbles and face-painting. We love getting there early to scoop a yummy pizza from Creekside Pizza and listen to the concert next door at Creek Park.

Hot tip: Don’t get stuck in a jam - San Anselmo Avenue is closed to traffic from Tamalpais to Tunstead from 4:30-9:30 pm.

16th September, 10 am to 4 pm: FREE Family Fun Day at The Vallejo Naval & Historical Museum

Don’t miss: Storytime (11:00 am-noon) is recommended for children aged eight and under and provided in English, Spanish, and Tagalog.

Where: 734 Marin St, Vallejo, CA 94590

We love it because: They really want you to have a good time. Yes, it might be a bit of a drive, but it's a beautiful museum, and for storytime, kids under five receive a free new book, a healthy snack, a plush toy, and an hour-long storytime program. AND snacks are also available for kids of all ages.

17th September, Noon to 5 pm: San Rafael PorchFest 2023

Don’t miss: A free, fun-filled, family-friendly community music event featuring over 60 bands, singers and musicians. Stroll from porch to porch and mingle with friends while catching local Marin County artists in action. Gourmet food trucks and a Pure Water fill-up station in front of Short School will help with fuelling up, or bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at Gerstle Park.

Where: Gerstle Park Neighborhood, San Rafael Ave, San Rafael, CA 94901

We love it because: Listen to talented local musicians creating music of all genres, including folk, Americana, gospel, soul, virtuosic instrumentalists, gypsy jazz, rock, psychedelic, indie, Latin, funk, family and teen bands. Pretty amazing stuff.

Hot tip: If you live nearby, walk or bike (self-park bike stations will be available.). If you plan on driving, free parking is available at several nearby parking lots, including 711 D Street between 1st and 2nd Streets.

And one for the parents!👇

September 14 - 17, from 9:00 am (end times vary depending on the day): Just Between Friends Huge Kids' Sale

Don’t miss: The North Bay's largest kids and maternity consignment sale, and offers toys, clothing, outdoor gear, mommy supplies, furniture, and more.

Where: Sonoma County Fairgrounds, 1350 Bennett Valley Rd, Santa Rosa, CA 95404

We love it because: With three kids, I love that I can save so much on essential (and non-essential) kids' items. It’s also great to do your part for the environment by getting pre-loved pieces instead of new ones. Win/win.

Hot Tip: Get in for free by registering for a pass in advance. Also, Sunday, September 17, 9 am-2 pm is free admission and Half Price Day. Nab a bargain!

September is a beautiful month. Let’s make the most of it!

I hope that you and your family get to really enjoy yourselves this weekend. And with its gorgeous weather, September is also the perfect time to book a family photo session (another great family activity!) and capture those beautiful everyday moments in your favorite spot. I would love to help you do so and still have a few sessions left for September. They are filling fast, so don’t hesitate, especially if you have a favorite location!

PS: Do you have any favorite family events or activities for September to share? I’d love to hear from you.
